Happy Woo-Woo Wednesday, you glorious creatures!
Break out your charts — create one at the FREE horoscopes (natal chart) area at Astro.com if you don’t already *always* keep one handy at this point — because we’re gonna take a good hard look at the 12th house.
Honestly, we could (and probably will over time) do a Woo-Woo Wednesday on each house, but to pair with this month’s topic, Your Relationship with Failure, it’s a great time to explore the house that represents that blindspot in our lives… the thing we don’t even realize is sabotaging us. The stuff we’re here to heal so it can be on our side rather than feeling like something we’re working against.
During a call last month with my amazing biz bestie, Aliza Rose — as we were digging in on a bajilliondy things over the course of more than two hours — she stopped and asked me, “Girl. Where’s your 12th house? Virgo?” (It is.) And then she went on to ask me a series of questions that made me understand more deeply this placement in my chart that has always felt confounding.
I’ve always known of the 12th house as the house of your undoing. Aliza reframed it as our opportunity to embrace our unseen realm. Whoa. Y’all KNOW I love a good language tweak. Especially one that puts more power on our side!
Okay, so grab your chart, look at the numbers around the inner circle. 12 should be at 9 o’clock on the chart face, with the letters AC out at the left edge of the thick line below it. That AC is your ascendant (rising) and the 12th house is just above that line. If you look at the data table with all the planets (to the left of the chart itself in the image of my chart, above), you can also see the exact degree to which that sign is in the 12th house. (You can see on mine, it’s 20° 54′ Virgo.)
Find yours, then hop to the description below for your reframe of that undoing! 😉
Aries in the 12th House
Boundaries, boundaries, boundaries. Remember when I shared about the ages of the signs? Aries is that forever-a-puppy energy with so much enthusiasm and zero awareness of how to stay within the lines. Stuck in the 12th house, this overly-confident, frisky, frenetic Aries energy is pent up and frustrated! Fortify boundaries with yourself and others to soothe this.
Taurus in the 12th House
Secret indulgences. If you’ve ever known someone who sneaks their eating, has affairs, or who is always on the chase for the basic pleasures in life, it’s possible there’s Taurus in the 12th house to credit for that. This all represents an aching fear about financial security. The work here is to align fantasy with reality, which requires shining a light on those secret indulgences, like it or not.
Gemini in the 12th House
Hold your tongue. Of course we know Gemini is a chatterbox of an air sign. When it’s in the 12th house, that can create a lot of regrets for things you’ve said, sharing others’ secrets, or feeling as if you’ll never be understood — no matter how much explaining you do. Especially by those closest to you. Ouch. Slow down, count to ten, breathe, and then speak. Trust that the right people get you.
Cancer in the 12th House
Mommy dearest. Okay, so Cancer is the most sensitive of all the signs and when it’s in the 12th house, there’s a bit of idol worship about the parentals, deserved or not! There’s a bit of fragility for those with this placement — especially after their primary parent dies. If you’ve rebelled against the family’s wishes and have Cancer in the 12th, you’ll find it hard to forgive yourself for it, no matter how successful you may be. So you’ll stash your joy away. Let yourself feel it. You’re allowed!
Leo in the 12th House
Pride goeth before a fall. Image is everything to the Leo and in the 12th house, that means there can be a bit of a superiority complex with harsh judgment of others. Especially if you feel underappreciated or uncredited for your good work. The soothing action here is to shift focus from EGO to OTHER. The more you come from a place of service with this placement, the more you heal what’s got the potential to take you down.
Virgo in the 12th House
We can work it out. There is nothing the Virgo can’t make work, and when it’s in the 12th house, there’s a system for everything — or else all the energy leaks out and topples the magic. Everything has its place; if even just one thing isn’t perfectly right, we’re calling the whole project off; and OCD tendencies seem the only way to ease this need for perfection. When those with Virgo in the 12th house (like me, y’all) focus on pattern-tracking, how the mind works, and communicating with the outsiders of the world about how NOT outside they are, we can actually get out of bed even if a cabinet door is left ajar.
Libra in the 12th House
Lie to me. Have you ever known those folks who can’t seem to stop dating the wrong people? Always being lied to, always being betrayed… and then finally they meet the right person who would never do that to them… and then THEY do the lying! Yikes. It’s possible that’s a Libra in the 12th house thing going on. The work here is to heal trust — most of all within ourselves — and focus on the beauty in relationships, not fearing that pairing up makes you dependent on others for survival.
Scorpio in the 12th House
You can’t hurt me if I hurt you first. So, this is Keith’s placement and sure enough, there’s all the secretive, escapist, feelings-burying going on you’d expect, plus a rabid love of weird convos and exposing the dark underbelly in everyone. This, of course, is so he can stay out ahead of it! The downside of digging up all this dirt on others is losing sight of what lights you up. Do your best to feel your feelings as you do the deep-dive on how we tick… and make others feel safe to come out of the shadows, not worried that you will manipulate them.
Sagittarius in the 12th House
Which end is up? If you’re always feeling lost — literally or metaphorically — check to see if this is your 12th house placement. Especially if you’re constantly planning as a means of trying to prevent that LOST feeling, this isn’t fun. Being directionless or unfocused even when there does seem to be a well-planned goal is simply reality here and the best way to soothe how if feels is by exploring what makes us tick as humans, meditating, enjoying the view, and when all else fails, taking a nap!
Capricorn in the 12th House
Bless this mess. There’s a chunk of karma to having this placement, and it manifests as hard work, big demands, feelings of low-enoughness, and cleaning up the mess from all the blocks that need to be busted on this path. While rolling up your sleeves and putting in the work — like seriously being physically strong — can create a powerful dynamic, there’s a bit of self-righteousness with Capricorn in the 12th house. Getting back to basics helps.
Aquarius in the 12th House
My way or the highway. There’s a streak of craving freedom if your 12th house hosts Aquarius and it’s a highly intellectualized way of coming about that desire that we’ll see play out. There is no happy medium with causes or issues you feel strongly about, there’s an eccentric flair to you, and if you can secretly invest in your friends’ pet projects you are blissed out by being that benefactor. Stay focused on being of service to others… and do it your way.
Pisces in the 12th House
To sleep, perchance to dream. So, Pisces is all about a rich fantasy life, filled with visits to other worlds and deep connection to the mystical and mythical. In the 12th house, Pisces doubles down on that and visits these alternate realities as if they are futures to create through dreams. If you’ve ever known those folks who cannot function without a LOT of sleep, it’s a good bet they’re recharging a 12th house Pisces with all that dream-time downtime!
