Thirsty Third Thursday and Other LA Networking Events

Hi Bonnie,

I just wanted to say thanks for some informative and interesting posts and columns I’ve read of yours. While not an actor (I’m a writer, producer, and filmmaker), some of the things you say or have others talk about are still very practical. Most recently I read the “Get Ready for LA” post which was attached to a recent BonBlast you sent out, as that is what I will be doing in June. Leaving Sydney and Australia for an even bigger smoke. Can’t wait.

I’ve already got a good base of friends and contacts over there — having visited and been there two, three times in the past two years — of which is my very good friend, Ryan Angel. Met her at the 2010 AFM and we’ve formed a great friendship since. She’s great but I don’t need to tell you that already as I know you guys interact a lot.

I am also part of a couple of writing groups and more and looking forward to meeting those people face to face for the first time. It’s all very exciting and I cannot wait to be part of it.

But really, just wanted to say thank you. I enjoy your posts and more, and your energy and enthusiasm is to be admired.

Here’s hoping I might even get to meet you in person, if just to attend a HHH for a drink or a good old fashioned chin wag — that’s if writers are allowed.

Thanks again, Bonnie. Your “Get Ready for LA” prompted me to write.

Cheers,
Mark Rasmussen

Mark, thank you. I loves me some Ryan Angel and I loves me some Australian creatives! 🙂 I’ve been working with a fabulous group of actors, writers, and producers from Australia for several years now and I’ve even had the chance to travel to Sydney to do some coaching. Awesome experience! 🙂

Absolutely, everyone is welcome to Hollywood Happy Hour events, when we have them (truth be told, it’s been a couple of years since our last one, but our online community is thriving), but there are also regular LA Actors’ Tweet-Up events, plus cool stuff like Second Sundays and Tuesdays @9, which you should definitely check out. (We also celebrate a Self-Management for Actors Thirsty Third Thursday, karaoke style, on any month with five Thursdays, and you’re welcome to join in that bit of fun!)

I’m so glad the guidelines in Get Ready for LA were helpful and I hope they’ll continue to guide you to some great resources that make your transition to Hollywood an easy one! Prepping for the big move can be overwhelming, but I can tell you that a good mindset is THE best prep you could hope for, in moving to Los Angeles. Get as plugged in as you can before you pack, and build those relationships in anticipation of a phenomenal arrival! Can’t wait to meet you. Thank you for the kind words about my work. I love it. Glad you’re enjoying it too!
