Hiya, Bonnie…

So glad to see you extolling the wisdom in The War of Art. It’s brought me a boatload of “a-has!” as well.

Your mention in a recent column about “the zone” reminded me to suggest (if you haven’t already) that you take a look at The Big Leap by Gay Hendricks.

Like Art, it’s loaded with simple, life-changing exercises and tools to help identify our default “zones” and the blocks that keep us from moving into higher ones. It’s an easy read… the kind of book you can refer back to. I highly recommend it.

Said it before, will say it again: Love your column. You are an actor’s “natural resource.”

Have a great week.
Steve Voldseth

Steve, thank you. It’s always great to hear from you. I’ve not yet checked out The Big Leap, but I’ll add it to my ever-growing list of must-reads (I have a bunch, thanks to having written about Steven Pressfield here and about Abraham-Hicks in my BonBlasts and getting great, “Yes, and…” suggestions from readers all over the world).

I think one of the best parts of The War of Art (and Do the Work, Pressfield’s follow-up book that I brought with me on this Self-Management for Actors tour) is the clarity it provides. The “cut through all the noise and mind taffy and clutter” elements, which are huge in most creatives’ lives. We walk around with this stuff kind of taunting us, making us question or second-guess or full-on block ourselves and there’s just no good that can come from any of that.

We are so much more for others in our expression when we say, “Back off, resistance,” and just get down to the work. I keep saying I’m going to write Mr. Pressfield a thank-you note for the positive impact his work has had on mine, this year. Maybe that’ll be something I can make happen while on the flight back to Los Angeles. Truly, this entire experience I’ve just had — with hundreds of actors in three cities in ten days — wouldn’t have been possible without my “Guide to DDA” (done dickin’ around), The War of Art.

Thanks for the reminder, Steve. Let’s go get it!
