Ah… fresh from a lovely afternoon soak in the tub (my favorite Moon-in-a-water-sign ritual) and back at the screen for a super-fun project I’m into.
For my I’m-building-it-right-now mini-course ($33) IF MARS AIN’T HAPPY… I’m creating a Mars playlist. (This is how I continue to make mix-tapes like I did for all my friends in the ’80s and into the ’90s. It’s also how I celebrate my 7 years in college radio and that amazing stint at a management firm that repped some of the most impactful recording artists of that era.)
So, as the sun begins to set on a mightily mutable Mars day, I’m moving through various songs on the YouTubes and searching out some of my personal Mars-vibe faves, adding them to the playlist and of course enjoying a bit of the sing-along that’s happening as well.
And because — eventually — there will be a playlist to go along with *each* planet’s not-yet-built mini-course (44 Days With Venus has hers, of course), I’m also taking a moment to toss certain vids into private playlists, all in an “I’ll figure this out later”-y kind of way. Saturn’s list is QUITE surprising somehow! Mercury’s is all over the place. Natch.
Anyway!
It’s at this point I remember that one of my very favorite people sent me the link to a vid she said was a must-watch. Hadn’t watched it yet. Busy. It’s in an open tab here somewhere… you know the deal.
Aaaaaaand… now I’ve watched, I’ve cried forever, and I am building a whole dang blog post around it. Because, just WOW.
Here. Check this out. All you need to know if you don’t recognize the two dudes in the thumbnail is that one of them is a 99-year-old legend of American stage and screen; the other is his neighbor, who happens to be the frontman of a pretty successful band.
Ah, the SWEETNESS.
Is that what blew me away? The sweetness? Was it how astonishingly fluid Dick Van Dyke’s movements still are? How brilliantly sharp his comedic mind still is? Maybe it was the level of respect, reverence, and remaining-in-the-present Chris Martin maintained? Or co-director Spike Jonze’s ever-innovative ways?
Perhaps it’s the improvised song at the end? All the nostalgic footage and photos? The gathering of special people with special memories?
It’s at this point that I stop asking such questions and just enjoy the heck out of this whole experience I’m having.
Ah… it’s perfect for this Pisces Moon.
For now, I’m putting this vid on my (future-mini-course) Saturn playlist. Why Saturn? Especially in a vid that moves me for its sweetness?
There’s the respect for aging. Saturn in the ancestral tour through black-and-white photos. 🖤🪐 Saturn in the rhythm of a very particular style of dance. Saturn in the rules of improvisational music-making that wind up the vid with so much humor, grace, and appreciation for all that has been. 🖤🪐
Share with me what it stirs up in you, if you’d like. CONNECTION feels like the right next choice, with this. (Hence, this post.) Do you notice Saturn stuff in this amazing story/song/celebration of life? Venus? Or — like I finally ended up doing — do you just appreciate knowing this sort of thing exists?
I appreciate that YOU exist!
Sending you lots of love, now and always!
’til next time,
