Here’s a great email from longtime reader, Robert Keniston. Win an Oscar? Throw yourself a parade! I freakin’ love this email and the sentiment behind it. Thank you, Robert! 🙂
Bonnie,
I’m writing today to share something with you and your readers that I’ve been enjoying watch unfold. I feel that it serves as a nice reminder as to why we all get into this crazy business in the first place.
It is the story is of Moonbot Studios, a small, fairly young animation studio in Shreveport, LA, and how they are celebrating their recent win of an Academy Award. Simply put; they had a parade!
Yes, that’s right, A PARADE! When most people have a parade for winning the Super Bowl, these guys got one for winning an Oscar!
You can see a short video of the festivities online here: https://vimeo.com/38052756.
Moonbot won Best Animated Short Film for their film/iPad app The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore.
I adore the film, I adore Moonbot Studios and I absolutely adore they way they celebrated this career milestone. These self-proclaimed “swamp rats” got to go to Hollywood and take home its most coveted prize. And they were just doing what they love in Shreveport. Awesome!
I had the pleasure of meeting the filmmakers on the red carpet after the ceremony and they were absolutely elated and having the time of their lives! It was a great reminder of my own excitement of why I moved out here over seven years ago to pursue my own career: that childlike excitement of getting to be in the Hollywood sandbox and play pretend on the world’s largest stage.
And I don’t ever, ever, EVER want to lose that feeling, nor should any of your readers. Because sometimes, that’s all we’ve got to give it one more try.
Moonbot Studios does great work and if you haven’t seen any of it then I recommend you look them up and enjoy.
Let us always be reminded by our colleagues at Moonbot Studios the reason we’re all here in the first place.
Oh and when you win an Oscar, throw a freaking parade! You’ve earned it! BRAVO!!!!!
Robert Keniston
