Hey Bonnie,
You have an excellent weekly column!
I am an actor in Seattle, looking to go as far as I can with film acting.
I’ve lived a very hard life from a difficult background and am still on my own, hence have not had the motivation and energy to pursue it at hardly a fraction of what I wish I could.
So I reach out like this when I find successful people. I’m interested to find any pointers or opportunities for acting roles that I may.
Also, I wanted to ask if you have any way to subscribe or track your column updates. I don’t see any options for that at Actors Access.
Hi there, and thanks for writing in! Let me point you to a couple of resources, right away. The first is an updated version of my column on “Agent-Free Auditioning.” Check that list and the comments section too. Lots of options for getting started, right away, wherever you live.
Next, I’d love for you to check out this fantastic POV from Sarah J. Eagen. She recently moved to Los Angeles from Seattle and in her POV she shares all sorts of great resources for actors in the Pacific Northwest. Yours is a thriving community, and you should work to get plugged in as soon as you can.
Now, of course we all understand having had struggles in life and feeling as if you’re not able to utilize all the resources available, but your words, “have not had the motivation and energy” concern me. Motivation is free. Energy is something you create. There is nothing stopping you from beginning your journey as a working actor, except for what you tell yourself is possible or impossible. So, I’ll ask that you choose to FIND inspiration to move forward, rather than seeking motivation (which is external).
As for email notification about my weekly columns here at Actors Access, if you’ll hop on the Bonnie Gillespie mailing list here, you’ll receive an email notifying you of each week’s new column, plus a goodie from the archives, which is open for comments, debate, discussion, Q&A, and updated info at my blog archives. Hooray!
I’m excited to hear more about your journey. Find something you can do each day to move toward your goals. Even the babiest of baby steps is better than standing still. Rock on!
Bonnie Gillespie is living her dreams by helping others figure out how to live theirs. Wanna work with Bon? Start here. Thanks!
