I cannot begin to articulate how infuriated I am by this.

The show will end in May, the network said, calling it “a purely financial decision.” CBS said its decision to cancel “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” was not related to “the show’s performance, content, or other matters happening at Paramount,” the network’s owner.

Sure, buddy. Whatever you say. 🙄

I have 2 degrees in journalism, so I get especially prickly about how news media has been destroyed since Ronald Reagan deregulated everything. THIS is exactly the kind of punchline that ONE policy decision leads to, over the decades.

I wrote 3 angry pages in my journal about this when I found out. I was already pissed about the settlement because it’s such a slippery slope and watching media outlets fall all over themselves to just “throw money at the problem” (AKA the Cheeto-in-Chief and his latest tantrum) rather than stand by their (alleged) values disgusts me.

(To catch you up, if necessary, Trump sued CBS over the differences in two versions of promos run for the “60 Minutes” interview done with Kamala Harris in the fall of 2024. His [completely frivolous] lawsuit alleges that the edits created a biased and more favorable view of Kamala than the full interview depicted and that this was done specifically to advantage Kamala in the 2024 presidential election. As a publicly-traded corporation, Paramount chose to pay $16M to settle this lawsuit, in the hopes that Trump would be less likely to block the sale of CBS that is currently in play [something he had threatened to do] and those stockholders would remain pleased… and rich.)

But when they cancelled Colbert’s show after his current contract term ends, I knew it was retribution for his open (and hilarious) opinion-sharing on the bribe settlement. And THAT is where things get super scary, in journalism. Because when our entertainers are removed from the air because they spoke COMEDICALLY about the NEWS, what have we become? Where’s our free press?

(As more of my clients schedule time with me to strategize leaving the house while avoiding ICE scoop-ups… and regulating their nervous systems while trying to just DO LIFE out there, this all just STACKS on. I feel so damn powerless. Of course, I know this is what revolutions are made of… so… I’ll watch another episode of “This Week in White Supremacy” — HIGHLY recommended [scroll down for this week’s episode] — and keep trying to come back to a more centered/resourced vibe about it all.)

TL;DR = The astrology of the now is sooo exactly as advertised. And while the astrologer in me loves the truth of it all, the human in me aches for the parallel universe in which things didn’t have to be this way, so they’re NOT this way.
