Thank You for the Advice!

Last week, our Your Turn topic was about saying NO when you’re being offered a role but getting a gut-instinct feeling like it might be a bad idea to accept it. We talked about how important it is to honor your gut — especially early on in your career when you don’t have a team advising you about what’s standard and what’s shady.

Well, you know I love a happy ending! Who doesn’t? 🙂 Read on!

Hi Bonnie,

Okay, so it was kinda awesome that you used my email in this week’s “Your Turn.” I was a little excited about it. And the advice that you gave was extremely helpful. After reading the response, I felt very confident in turning down the project. And it was very easy, no questions were asked. I just received a simple, “Thank you for letting us know,” and that was it.

As a follow-up, I sent a thank you note. And just yesterday (to my surprise) I received an email from the CD, which thanked me for the card!

Perhaps I’m an eternal optimist, but I’m actually glad that this happened. At least, now I know I should trust my instincts just a little more. Now I know that it wasn’t professional behavior. And even though I am a newbie, I shouldn’t be afraid to say no when necessary. Looking on the bright side of it, I’m very grateful that I was offered this project and I was given the opportunity to learn and grow from this experience.

Thank you so much for your advice!

Regina, I’m so impressed with your good attitude and of course I love that you followed up and let us all know what you chose to do and how you feel about it. That’s awesome! I’m thrilled that you made a good connection with that casting director and hope you’ll find it to be a wonderful relationship that lasts over the course of a very long and successful career in this business!

Keep up the good work and thanks again for keeping me posted! I’m so glad it worked out well and hope your next offer is one that you’re thrilled to accept, thrilled to shoot, thrilled to promote, and thrilled to propel forward from having done.
