Is it REALLY that big a deal to do rituals, spells, and such during an eclipse? Why all the cautions? I’m trying to harness this energy…
In general, you wanna see eclipse season as a time of rest and gratitude. Starting new relationships of any kind can be intense, unpredictable, and less-often positive in nature than all other times.
Only VERRRRY experienced folks should contemplate doing Moon magic for VERRRRY specific reasons during eclipses (especially with eclipses as spicy as this one)!! 😉
The “rule” for ritual work and eclipses is that you’re likely to get something far more intense and unpredictable than what you’re accustomed to. In a standard Full Moon, you want to charge your crystals, make moon water, do some really great releasing rituals… and during an eclipse, those crystals could crack/break, the water could be infused with unexpected critters (energetic or literal), and something that would usually be a quick fire-based release of a bad habit could become the need for a fire extinguisher (or worse).
So… just think about what you’re wanting to do. You said, specifically, “I’m trying to harness this energy…” and consider that eclipse energy is inherently NOT harnessable (not a word; I know… ha ha). Thinking about what QUALITIES you want to harness, maybe there’s another lunation coming up that would allow you to get those qualities into your spellwork without the side effect of intense/unpredictable extras, y’know?
Here’s a good, simple eclipse working (and you’ll notice even this one has you do part of the work AFTER the eclipse has perfected).
Oh, I also noticed you mentioned wanting to get Mercury retrograde into the “opportunity.” I should mention that not only is Mercury retrograde right now, they’re also in the sign of their detriment AND fall. These conditions (essential dignities) make for a very unhappy little planet… so they’re struggling over there.
That’s another bit of wonkiness you may want to avoid building into the birthchart of whatever spell you cast. ❤️
