Hi Bonnie,
My name is Brittaney Wilmore, and I’m new to acting! It’s what I want to pursue as my career, and I stumbled upon your column in my search for great resources.
I’m putting together my resumé, and I wanted to know if you could critique it or point me in the right direction as to how to get started. I have experience as on-camera talent (I work at a TV station), but not acting in film or theatre.
If you have a moment to put me on the right track, it’d be so appreciated! I attached the hodgepodge of what I put together based on examples that I viewed from experienced actors. Admittedly, I grabbed bits and pieces from my curriculum vitae and deleted other parts such as awards/honors and retail experience since I figure what matters is what I’ve done in front of the camera or on stage.
Thanks in advance for any feedback you can provide!
Brittaney Wilmore
Hiya Brittaney, and good for you, starting off on the right foot! I’m glad you’ve found my columns and I’m thrilled to know they’re helping you already.
You may have seen that I’ve done a series of critiques over the years, and I actually pledged late last year that I would try to do critiques throughout 2013. Your email is a great reminder that I promised such a thing, and you’re allowing me to have a jumping off point to encourage readers who’ve been hankerin’ to have their goodies reviewed to send ’em on in, for an upcoming column. Thank you!
I have your resumé and will go through it in that new column. I don’t offer “inbox coaching,” so for those who are not ready to work with me more formally, going through materials via this column is a great option: It gets your tools in better shape, it costs nothing, it helps others learn by your example, and if you’re already doing everything right, it celebrates you in front of tens of thousands of readers every week. Yay!
So, fine folks, if you’d like to have your goodies reviewed, the deal is, it’s a perk for members of the Bonnie Gillespie mailing list. Yes, you can hop on RIGHT NOW and then shoot me your goodies (use the same email address that’s subscribed, as my ninja assistants *do* check) for the critiques series. 🙂
Thank you, Brittaney, and thank you to all of you who are willing to have your materials out there as teaching tools for actors worldwide.
Let’s do this!
(Yes, if you’re already in my inbox due to submitting for the last round of critiques, you’re still in consideration. 🙂 Yay!)
Bonnie Gillespie is living her dreams by helping others figure out how to live theirs. Wanna work with Bon? Start here. Thanks!
