Driving Hits to Actor’s Website Via Google Search

Hey Bonnie,

I really liked the article this week about the Google Alerts and Google searches. I have gotten on that today and already made Google Alerts for CDs of shows I would be right for as well as producers I have met.

I have a question pertaining to the Google searches. I just want to make sure I completely understood what to do. As I did an IKEA spec commercial, I wanted to put a Q in my website that states, “Who is the guy in the IKEA commercial?” and then answer with my name. I put that in the home page and hid it by matching the font like you said. I just want to make sure that is exactly what you meant by trying to get more hits on Google. Is this correct?

Thanks again for the articles and advice! Have a great week.

Best,
Anthony

Hi Anthony. Thanks for writing.

Good for you, getting those Google Alerts rolling in. Are you learning a lot? Finding places to interact with your potential buyers? Discovering what each of these folks looks for in an actor? Well done!

Yes, what you described would work fine for your website. But you don’t have to make the font match the background. You can plant that Q and A right on your main page or bio page or news page or FAQ page (wherever most appropriate) and that’ll do the trick. The idea of putting “masked words” on a webpage comes from planting lots of info that may not be relevant to visitors (like various misspellings of your name). You can also put that information in the meta tags of your webpage. The search engines will find those words and phrases too.

If you don’t have a website of your own, setting up a free blog space to share these bookings and drive traffic to your IMDb page is awesome. Even non-private Twitter posts get Googled, so that’s a great place to set up that IKEA Q and follow it with the A of your name. Start getting the info out there, so when people do start searching you, they land at the right place.
