Feedback on The Economy Has Done Artists a Favor

Got lots of great feedback on The Economy Has Done Artists a Favor this week! Thank you! Here are some of the best notes I received.

Dear Bonnie,

In Chinese the character for the term crisis is the same as that for opportunity. I try to remember this every time I hear another piece of crisis news about the economy and I automatically think about all the opportunities this is creating.

All the best,

Regarding this week’s column, my newest “status” was going to be, “Tristen says the bad economy was the best thing that happened to her career.”

I was forced to go on unemployment in January. I’ve still been working since, but at least I have that unemployment to fall back on when I can’t get enough shifts. I told myself that if I started collecting, it was my responsibility to make sure I hustled like never before. I said I was going to do all of those things that I couldn’t do with a full-time job.

Since January, I’ve been doing my own drop-offs, targeting CD workshops, been interning in a casting office, interning at my agents office, networking, and I can see it paying off. I’m light-years ahead of where I was in 2008 already.

The column is awesome. Thanks, B.

Bon,

LOVING this week’s column! I didn’t know why this depression wasn’t really bothering me. Duh! Because everyone’s in our boat, now! Thanks for rocking! 🙂

I really appreciate your article on the economy. It just goes to show there really are no guarantees in life. Might as well pursue what you want.

Thanks, everyone! It was great to get such wonderful feedback on the economy piece. Isn’t it liberating to imagine that maybe there are more wannabe artists who never took a chance who now will get to make a go of it? Maybe there are brilliant creatives just waiting to join us in this crazy, freelance lifestyle of ours! And now they have their chance. Awesome! And welcome! Live your dreams! If you don’t, someone else will.
