Fiction vs. Non

Observation: Writing a screenplay is HARD.

Day three of the 14-Day Screenplay… I’m at the top of an empty page nine.

I can write non-fiction all day long. I churn out two columns a week, every week. In just over three years, I’ve written and published three books (or four, if you count each SMFA as its own title).

But ask me to create a world, get the visions that exist only in my head onto paper, and you will see me STUCK.

Doesn’t mean I won’t do it, I’ll just struggle in a way I’m not used to struggling, while writing. I guess it’s good to stretch an unused muscle every now and then, eh?

Oh, and don’t get me wrong! I’m very proud of what I’ve done. It’s just kind of ODD to have something that generally comes so easily be so HARD just because it’s a different type of writing.

Approach it like it’s non-fiction, then! Pick a plot, do the research, visualize the scenes and dialog, and record what you see.
Nto that that works for ME mind you.

Scat, I have FAITH in you!!!
You are way awesomer than me, no matter anything you say. It’s nonfiction. It’s fact.

The more you make yourself do it, the easier it gets…

Like the Nike folks used to say, just do it. Write and write and write and and you’ll get unstuck.
I can’t wait to see how this all comes together!
    Good luck.

Call it, “14 days to a better you” –
Finally today I got so disgusted with myself I’m doing an assload of laundry, cleaning everything, and hopefully making it to the gym (for the 1st time in over a week…)and setting up my new printer!
So I’ll miss a week at Tuesdays…so nothing compared with finally getting all these things done that make me feel like a loser every day for having NO incentive to do…
(Oh and Btw, still on page 52 so you can totally catch up! If I get everything ELSE on my agenda done I’ll revisit and try to crank out a few more pages in the wee hours!)
Soooo do not want to be the “hare” of this fable…
Keep at it! Your script is gonna rock!

WOW! Thanks, everyone! You’re all so very very very wonderful. Wow! Awesome comments. THANK YOU.
Today was intense. Four-and-a-half-hour casting meeting on HILMMAKS (I get to make an offer on a minor role to one of my friends tomorrow–WHEE) and loads of phone calls before and after regarding the two shorts I’m casting. An offer on one of those goes out tomorrow, prereads on the other all day Thursday. Phew! I am casting my ass off!
But I’m very excited about the screenplay. Y’all know how much I love THE PRESSURE of the deadline to get me really fired up, in writing. So, I’m willing to bet I’ll have a pretty intense weekend and loads of pages cranking out next week (between more casting meetings and callbacks).
OH! And it looks like ANOTHER of the contacts I made at the QOCC and 2DI screening last month is going to turn into a casting job. ANOTHER FRICKIN’ SERIES!
    WTF?????????
    Grow, garden grow!
Okay, to bed. Yes, I’m serious. This has been a rockstar day and I’m pooped. I imagine I’ll be awake in a few hours and back at work on Moshi’s world. I’ll report when I can.
Again, thanks everyone for the encouragement. I LOVE IT! XXOO
