Year-End Declarations

Last month, I issued a challenge to readers of The Actors Voice to declare what it is that you can — and will — do, as we close out 2012! Thank you for your responses! This round of responses (yes, I’m sharing a few) comes from my SMFA Master Class, and I remain so inspired by this group of amazing people!

What are your year-end declarations?

I have two!! Eeeeeek. Here goes.

I will contact a new agent that suits my brand.

I will learn how to swim.

Rebecca Carney

I love that! I love that it’s not “get an agent” but “contact an agent.” So much more empowering (and within your control)! And learning to swim is a gorgeous goal for a firestarter! Love it!

Next.

I choose every day to listen to my heart. To listen to the voices of “yes,” “you can,” “you go,” or, “do it.” To listen, learn, and practice. To be willing to accept the next challenge-slash-opportunity where I find it without judgment.

To choose my path newly every day and take the next step to follow my dream… and to rejoice in yours.

Namaste.
Lon Fiala

I love this, Lon. You’re one of my favorite new people of 2012. Thank you for bringing such peace to everything you encounter and for sharing that with us all.

Next.

I have SO MUCH TIME!!!

You’d mentioned that principle that the time it takes to do a task expands or contracts based on how much time you have to do it…? IF the only thing I have to do today is fold my laundry, it takes ALL day to get it done. I’ve got five minutes to do it… done in five. What is that all about?

I feel this declaration might be the boldest I’ve ever made: I am working on a four to six season webseries concept with a partner. The entire series storyline takes place in a 48-hour time period. It will therefore be shot like a feature, so I need a screenplay.

Considering the holiday season is so slow for clowning, I have tons of time with which I am doing nothing but feeling antsy and unfulfilled. I am going to write this screenplay. I’ve never written anything longer than a one-act. And this screenplay’s going to be CRAP!

I’m saying this so that’s all I have to live up to. Because getting that crap draft out of the way — making “crap” the goal in and of itself — will prevent my perfectionist from not taking action on it at all. Because she is the Queen of Resistance: “It’s not going to be perfect, why bother doing it?”

Well, my goal is not perfect… in fact, the goal is horribly flawed. But written, warts and all.

So mote it be.

I love all of this, and especially love the “warts and all” of it. We use “I can’t get it right” as a regular excuse for not starting at all, and what a beast that tool of Resistance is!

I cannot wait to learn more about this CRAP!

Kill it, y’all. I’m proud of these SMFA Master Class ninjas for sharing and I hope more readers will pop in with some declarations about how to rock these last few weeks of 2012 OUT! 🙂

Let’s celebrate what we can do! 🙂
