One of the badass groups I guide is the JFDI Creative Entrepreneur mastermind. We just met for the month and I ended our meeting — in which we talked about all the “sell, sell, sell/buy, buy, buy” messaging that swirls around everything this time of year — with the following:

Do not push yourself beyond your ability to be kind to yourself. 🌺

(Yes, I totally said the emoji too. 😉 Just kidding.)

We are sooooooo quick to judge ourselves when we need slow, soft energy. We can feel that slow, soft energy is exactly what we need and yet we push ourselves. We push ourselves because dominant culture says so. Because social media makes it look like that’s what everybody is doing. Because we’re good soldiers to the system… a system whose values we don’t even share.

We find it hard to give ourselves slow, soft energy because there’s messaging in the primal brain that choosing slow, soft energy makes us easier to kill. And in a world made up of staying hyper-vigilant about every threat in a parade of threats that constantly renews, “slow, soft energy” is considered a failure. Laziness. Surrender. Insert any label that is often associated with being broken, wrong, NOT okay.

While there’s a very big part of me (specifically, my 1st house Uranus placement) that has a LOT to say about how we revolutionize all that programming (and that’s stuff we work on in a different mastermind), here’s the slow, soft, small thing I’ll say about it for now: Please commit to allowing yourself heaps of kindness. 🦋

That’s it.

When the world is incapable of showing us kindness, it’s more important than ever that we show kindness to ourselves.

So… let’s do that. You with me?

Much love,

Ah, Bonnie! I often use that little pink flower (technically a hibiscus) to sign my name because it’s the closest emoji to a lily. So when I saw this, I read it as, “Do not push yourself beyond your ability to be kind to yourself, Lily.” And I FELT it. <3
