Whether I’m working with actors, writers, or small business entrepreneurs, there’s something everyone seems to have in common.

We don’t want to put ourselves OUT THERE until we get everything *just* right.

And I say “WE” because of course, I’m guilty of this too. I’ve been in the creative cave for months building things I’m really excited to share with the world… and then my team will ask, “Where are with with THIS?” and “Is it time to get going with THAT?” and I’ll want to run and hide because I KNOW I’m hitting the brakes on stuff for no other reason than that I want it to be better first.

Not even perfect! I’ve long ago clocked out from being a perfectionist (thank God!) yet still there’s this level of “not yet not yet not yet” because I know what I WANT it to be when it grows up… and until it looks a lot more like that, I keep what I’m creating to myself.

Now, I’ll ask you (and myself) whether you really believe that something you’re building — whether it’s an updated demo reel or a screenplay, an online course or a coaching offer — could help people. Like, you get your stuff in front of the right people and you’re able to reach the world with the story you know needs to be told. You’re able to give voice to those voices you’re on this planet to amplify. The thing you’ve created could improve someone’s life or heal someone in some kind of way.

If you answered yes (and I sure did; I know what I’m building has the potential to help sooooooo many people in a whole new way), then consider the number of people you’re helping by NOT getting it out there just yet.

Zero.

Zero people are being impacted by your talent, touched by your grace, helped by your offering… because… what? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ It’s not “good enough” yet?

Yeah. Let’s get over that. It’s time to do what I call the WORST/FIRST.

That first time you put yourself out there, it’s gonna be the worst. But it’s exactly then that the stakes are lowest, your audience is smallest, and you have the most freedom to fail… and learn from that, recalibrate, and then do it again!

I did my worst/first with a free astrology vid series and now it’s better! (See for yourself, if you’re woo-curious.)

I did my worst/first presentation of my soon-to-be-famous 5×5 Content Plan and OMG it’s now so much better it’s an on-demand mini-course! (Check it out here.)

I did my worst/first EVER live vid at Facebook on 14 November 2008 (almost 12 years ago to the DAY) and it was *rough* but I got that one out of the way while the stakes were low and… well… you can join me in a few hours when I livestream again to see if I’ve gotten any better (spoiler alert: I have)! 😉

Join me at 12pm PST (translate that time to your local time here) and we’ll jam about my simple tactic for getting over myself and getting that worst/first out into the world so it can help more people than ZERO.

What are you stalling out on? And how can I help? Comments are open just below and I’d love to support you! Hope you can join me here at noon! (And yes, there will be a replay if you can’t join me live.)

Here’s to our worst/firsts!

See you soon,

    Hey Bonnie!

Your ability to know exactly what I need to hear still blows me away 🙂

I’ve been thinking a lot about your previous BonBlast, about what I’m going to be doing with this wonderful exhale after the election results.

And it connects to this most recent Blast, too. I’m writing and producing a series from the pandemic perspective. So, it’ll be recorded on Zoom. I’m nervous because I’ve never written a whole season before and those nerves are causing me to have some hesitation.

I had a big picture meeting with a good friend last night though. She’s great with the macro and I’m great with the micro so we make an incredible team. I’m feeling much better after that meeting and doing my best to launch at 85%!

    *Deep breaths*

    Love you,
    Jess

I *love* that you’re leaning into your strengths and partnering with someone who can complement them with hers. That’s HUGE and you’ll be amazed at what you’re able to move forward (and what your brain will still tell you is too scary to do). Launch at 85%, darlin’! You’ve got this!
