Hello beautiful people of Expansive Capacity!

It’s time once again for Superpower Sunday! 🙂

As always, this is all about how we can implement wee changes that may turbocharge our *existing* superpowers so that we don’t dim our own lights due to inertia, stress, or any other upper-limit problem that reveals itself along our path.

In this month’s Superpower Sunday, we’re gonna finish off our deep dive on “Your Relationship with Change” with a phrase Keith and I use in our relationship regularly — especially as we navigate change that takes the shape of loss.

“We had a good run.”

You heard me get very serious during this month’s Zoom about my irrational fear around Keith dying, but 99% of the time, we’re both incredibly irreverent about the death experience. We specifically joke about what it’ll be like when one or the other of us steps out in front of a bus without noticing and — BAM — it’s all over.

“Welp! We had a good run!”

That’s the line. Because, really, we did! If it’s all over tomorrow, we had a good run.

When our sweet kitty went to kitty heaven, yes, we mourned. Yes, we cried. Yes, we grieved. And yes, we said, “We had a good run,” because OMG we did! 🙂 We had years together of neck skritches and belly rubs and naps in the sunny spot. Unconditional love and purring and playing. That is — without question — a good run.

One of my favorite stories in this area is called The Glass Is Already Broken, from Thai meditation master Ajahn Chah (also written as Achaan Chaa), shared during a discussion of impermanence.

“You see this goblet? For me, the glass is already broken. I enjoy it; I drink out of it. It holds my water admirably, sometimes even reflecting the sun in beautiful patterns. If I should tap it, it has a lovely ring to it. But when I put this glass on the shelf and the wind knocks it over or my elbow brushes it off the table and it falls to the ground and shatters, I say, ‘Of course.’ When I understand that the glass is already broken, every moment with it is precious. Every moment is just as it is… and nothing need be otherwise.”

There is a moment at which we’re each going to stop having the experience of a status, a person, a thing, an identity we hold onto, whatever… and what a GIFT to ourselves in that moment to acknowledge:

We had a good run.

For this Superpower Sunday I would love for you to begin practicing KNOWING… it’s all temporary. And how cool that we can go ahead and build the muscle for not only knowing we’re okay when things change (as they always will) but also for enjoying the heck out of the time we DO have with things exactly as they are. Right. Now.

Admin Note: Your March Aligned Hustle Calendar is at the Expansive Capacity welcome page. (Remember, if you’d like to go deeper in the woo with me, I invite you to check out my astro goodies and join us for Aligned Advantage soon.)

Let’s keep jamming on this topic at the dojo ’til March’s topic, Your Relationship with Desire, emerges on the 1st. Woo HOO!

I love you all so damn much!

XO
